Can you believe it? DLSA has turned 30!
Yes, that’s right—our first swimming lesson was conducted way back in September 1994 at the little 12m x 4m Gunn Street pool. Do you remember the Gunn Street pool? It was humble, but it’s where it all started, and look how far we’ve come since then! To think, we’ve been servicing the water safety needs of the Toowoomba region for three whole decades. We couldn’t be prouder or more grateful to all the families who have trusted us with their children’s swimming education over the years.
We have plenty of 30th birthday celebrations planned for the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned—this milestone is too big to contain to just one event!
Another highlight of the month was our participation in the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
parade. Did you catch a glimpse of our float? It was a spectacular underwater scene, thanks to the incredible effort from the entire DLSA team and a massive shout-out to Helen Lange for the hours of work she put in to bring the float to life.
Special mention to Darren’s parents, Hazel and Ian, for joining us on the day. Their ongoing behind-the-scenes support is invaluable, and we were so glad to have them with us for the parade.
September’s excitement didn’t end there—DLSA was nominated for multiple awards at the national Swim Australia Awards Night. Eight of our teachers were recognised for their outstanding work, and we were also nominated for Swim School of the Year. It was a thrilling night, and we’re beyond proud to announce that we took home not one, but two prestigious awards!
DLSA won the Swim Australia Award for Best Regional Large Swim School for Innovation and Team Training, which is a testament to the dedication and leadership of our incredible team.
A special congratulations to Connor Bailey, who took home the individual award of Swim Australia Teacher of the Year Award - Learners with Disability. Connor’s commitment to helping children learn to swim safely and confidently is second to none, and we’re so proud to see him recognised on a national stage.
The awards wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our entire team, and a big thanks go to our General Manager, Kylie Messenger, for her exceptional leadership.
Now, as we gear up for a busy summer season, we’re excited to see all our swimming families again—especially those who might have taken a little winter break. It’s time to dive back into the pool, brush up on those water safety skills, and enjoy swimming, a healthy sport for life!
